Civil service careers offer individuals the unique opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves and to make a difference in the lives of others.

From serving in the government and creating policies that benefit the community to working in emergency services and saving lives and beyond, civil service positions are some of the most impactful in the world.

This scholarship seeks to honor the lives of Janet and Jim Boettcher by supporting students who are pursuing careers in civil service. Janet and Jim served as City Clerk and in City Water and Maintenance, for a combined 45 years. Janet also managed the Becker Food Shelf for over 30 years, while Jim served over 30 years as a volunteer fire fighter and Becker Fire Department Chief.

Any high school student at Becker High School in Minnesota may apply for this scholarship if they’re interested in civil service, but special consideration will be given to those interested in careers in local government, firefighting, or related industries.
