Homer L. Graham Memorial Scholarship
Homer L. Graham was a hard-working husband and father determined to provide his three sons, Joel, Trevor, and Sean, with the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
Homer grew up in rural Georgia, on his family’s farm with six siblings. Naturally bright, and a diligent student, Homer was the valedictorian of his high school class.
Despite his academic achievement, Homer was a victim to his environment; class and racial inequities resulted in his lack of access to the resources required to attend college.
Once a father, Homer ensured that his sons were afforded every chance to pursue their goals. Through the example of his work ethic, he stressed the importance of taking pride in every task, big or small, not only as a means to take advantage of any presented opportunities, but to also allow for consistency and resilience when encountering obstacles.
Before he passed away, he proudly witnessed two generations of Grahams – his sons Trevor and Sean, and eldest grandsons, Trevor Jr., and Jordan – attend college, obtain degrees, and advance in their chosen fields.
The Homer L. Graham Memorial Scholarship exists to continue the legacy of pairing hard work with opportunity which was so important to him.
In his honor, this scholarship is designed to reward a hard-working Black male who is graduating from high school and planning to attend an HBCU in the fall of 2021.
