George W. Jones, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship seeks to support students who desire to continue their musical involvement throughout their years of higher education and beyond in honor of George W. Jones, Jr., a lifelong teacher and champion of band musicianship.
George's life was filled with music as he served as a band director all his adult life. George went on to direct several high school bands for Garland ISD and later served as the Director of Visual and Performing Arts. He also volunteered for over 30 years as Director of the Richardson Community Band and, after retirement, served as Director Emeritus. Later, he served as an Adjunct Professor of Music at Texas A&M University — Commerce to mentor music student teachers. George enjoyed the roles of director, teacher, judge, clinician, and mentor to many different bands especially his student bands!
Any high school senior in Texas who participates in band may apply for this scholarship, but Garland ISD and Richardson ISD graduates will be given preference.
