Bold.org College Journalism Grant
Journalism is under incredible scrutiny today in the US, with constantly swirling debates on responsible journalism, what constitutes bias in media, and how to ensure facts remain at the forefront of our public discussions.
For the free press to thrive as a trusted pillar of our society, it is critical that talented new reporters are supported as they power quality journalism for decades to come.
Supporting creative, innovative aspiring journalists is especially important at the university level, where a massive 76% of students regularly read their college newspaper.
College newspapers are thriving, with a stronger impact than ever on student bodies; they educate students and spark conversation among them. Students are a particularly critical segment of our population because they have their entire lives as engaged citizens ahead of them.
The Bold.org College Journalism Grant supports aspiring journalists currently in college, and will cover costs for a campus journalism project proposed by the recipient.
Applicants must be current students enrolled in any accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program at a 4-year, 2-year, vocational, or technical institution in the US. Applicants do not need to be journalism majors, but do need to have a strong passion for journalism.
Winners will be chosen based on the creativity and potential impact of their proposed project.
- Why are you passionate about journalism? Which journalism projects have you pursued in the past?
- Which issues are important on your campus or in your region?
- What campus journalism project would you like to pursue? Explain why this project will be important for your student body. Why is this a story worth telling?
- If you receive the grant, how would you use the funding?
