SAN FRANCISCO (June 28, 2021) – Bold.org, the scholarship platform committed to fighting student debt through philanthropy, continues its Year of Giving Campaign with a new scholarship. For the campaign’s June chapter, Bold.org partners with actress and activist, Jameela Jamil, for a $15,000 I Weigh Scholarship. Jameela’s scholarship will be awarded to three students who are passionate about allyship and inclusiveness. Applicants are asked to submit an essay along with a piece of original content inspired by community and showing up. Three students will be awarded $5,000 each.
In addition to her talent as an actress and host, Jameela has been a committed advocate, embracing inclusivity and changing the narrative around harmful stereotypes and long-misconstrued body standards in society. The $15,000 I Weigh Scholarship is yet another one of Jameela’s efforts to create positive change in the world. The scholarship is in partnership with her organization, I Weigh, a community dedicated to breaking down shame and stereotypes around the world.
Jameela founded I Weigh in 2018 to amplify, advocate and pass the mic to voices across a variety of important topics, and since its inception has built a reputation of integrity, entertainment, and palpable change. The organization believes in progress over perfection — understanding that educating people is much more productive than cancel culture. Jameela’s vision for I Weigh has led to change across various communities around the world, and her leadership and activism has successfully resulted in Facebook and Instagram eliminating diet & detox advertisements geared toward minors. I Weigh is also currently campaigning for two bills to reach the Senate.
Actress, Activist, and Founder of I Weigh, Jameela Jamil says: “Working with Bold.org has been a great way to further I Weigh’s overarching mission to embrace inclusivity, seek change, and support those in our community. I am so excited to see the original content that students create for the application!”
Bold.org CEO and Founder, Dror Liebenthal, says: “We are thrilled to work with I Weigh and Jameela, a committed activist using her voice to create a better, more inclusive world. We can’t wait to see the creative submissions that her I Weigh Scholarship inspire.”
The Year of Giving Campaign kicked off in January 2021, an initiative to create scholarships each month alongside impact-focused public figures and brands. Previous campaign partners include NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Dwyane Wade, EDM producer and DJ 3LAU, NFL Wide Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, Grammy-winning band Imagine Dragons and professional MMA fighter Cat Zingano. At the end of the year, the campaign will launch Bold.org’s largest scholarship yet for $100,000. To join Bold.org in fighting America’s student debt crisis, donors can create their own custom scholarship by creating a profile at www.bold.org.
