Actress, coder and former model, Lyndsey Scott, debuts the $10,000 Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship, exclusively on Bold.org. Scott created the scholarship to empower LGBTQIA+, female and BIPOC students who want to pursue their dreams while working in tech. In June 2023, Lyndsey will award the scholarship to six winners; five of the winners will receive $1,000 each and one winner will receive $5,000.
Lyndsey Scott says, “The computer science field is one of the fastest-growing industries, but there’s a clear lack of diversity. My goal in creating the Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship on Bold.org is to uplift a diverse group of students who want to combine computer science with their other passions – just like I have. I can’t wait to award my scholarship to six students who will further enrich our world and its technology.”
Lyndsey is a proud advocate for diversity in the tech industry, and she uses her influential platform to encourage young people to pursue a higher education. At just 12 years old, Scott was already coding and programming. Today, she is a professional coder and has built various iOS apps for non-profit organizations. In 2011, she launched her first app called Educate! to support a non-profit for young Ugandan scholars. Since then, she has created countless apps for companies and charitable causes.
Today, Scott juggles both coding and acting, and the Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship will help others pursue a coding career while also pursuing their dreams. Scott’s profession in coding has financially allowed her to transition from modeling to acting. After graduating from Amherst College, Lyndsey started modeling for the biggest names in fashion, and she walked in the world’s most popular runways such as the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. In 2010, Scott was the only African American model walking runways for Prada during New York Fashion Week. Lyndsey was also the first African American model to sign an exclusive runway contract with Calvin Klein. Today, when Scott isn’t coding, she is actively pursuing her passion for acting.
Lyndsey joins a long list of public figures who support education on Bold.org. Other Bold.org scholarship donors include Terry Crews, Dwyane Wade, Sloane Stephens, Imagine Dragons and many more. The Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship is now open to LGBTQIA+, women and BIPOC students. Applicants must write an essay about their goals inside and outside of computer science and how they might combine these goals in the future. Applications must be submitted by May 15, 2023.
