Our story

Russell R. Hahn Russ served Cornell University, CALS, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the farmers of New York State and nearby states with distinction as Professor and Weed Science Specialist starting in 1974 and Professor Emeritus since 2017. Russ was a native of Nebraska and completed both his BS And MS degrees in agronomy/weed science at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1964 and 1968, respectively. He then went on to complete his PhD in weed science at Texas A&M University in 1974 before joining Cornell as a faculty member that same year. For those who knew him, Russ spoke candidly and had a very dry sense of humor. He was a cherished member of our community who will be missed by all who knew him.

Our goal

This fund is being created in honor of Russell R. Hahn, Weed Scientist, in order to support current Weed Science students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees. The hope is to provide 2 scholarships totaling $2,500 each. Russ would be honored to have his life's work continued through the support of weed science students to help them further their educations.

Russ was a beloved cousin to me, my wife and our daughters. We spent much time together as I was growing up. My wife, daughters and I loved his dry sense of humor. We always enjoyed time spent with him at Christmas when he would return to Nebraska. He was "Uncle Russ" to our daughters. At Christmas, Russ would take a lot of thought and time to choose books he thought they would enjoy. He never made a bad choice.
