Our story

Late 2024, I paused to reflect on my professional journey and long-term aspirations. After much thought, I made the decision to take the first step toward bringing one of my most heartfelt dreams to life. I am thrilled to have created this scholarship fund that aims to support first-generation minority students who are pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree. As a first-generation college graduate who went on to earn a PhD, I know the obstacles that often accompany the pursuit of higher education. The financial hurdles, the doubts, and the sacrifices can be overwhelming. But for me, none of it would have been possible without the support I received along the way. It is because of that support—whether financial, emotional, or academic—that I was able to succeed, and now, it’s my turn to pay it forward. The scholarship is not just about providing financial assistance; it’s about creating opportunities for those who will drive systemic change. It’s about lifting up individuals who will stand alongside other social workers in the fight for equity and justice through social work. This fund is my way of ensuring that future social workers—those who share a similar path to mine—will have the chance to make a lasting impact on the world. This endeavor is dedicated to the two people who have shaped my life the most: my parents. Their unwavering love and guidance continue to inspire me daily. It is also in memory of my mother’s uncle, Ernesto, and my former professor, Celina Garza, both of whom believed in me when I couldn’t always believe in myself. Their support and encouragement made a world of difference, and I am honored to carry forward their legacy by helping to shape the next generation of change-makers.

Our goal

Fuerza de V.N.C.E Scholarship Fund is dedicated to empowering first-generation minority students pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree. Our mission is to provide financial support to those who are committed to becoming social workers and creating systemic change in their communities. As someone who has walked the path of higher education with the help of others, I am deeply committed to giving back and ensuring that future generations of social workers have the resources and opportunities to succeed. This scholarship is not only about alleviating financial burdens—it’s about fostering a new wave of leaders in social work who will fight for equity, justice, and social change. Our mission is also a tribute to the many people who have supported, guided, and believed in me throughout my own journey. By funding this scholarship, we hope to honor their legacies and support the next generation of change-makers who will stand beside us in the ongoing work of building a better, more equitable world. This scholarship fund is a reminder that with the right support, no dream is too big, and no challenge is insurmountable. Together, we can empower the future of social work, one student at a time.

I will always be action based, if I want systematic change…I will do what it takes. I wanted to donate because this scholarship is important to me.
