Our story

Cody had a masters degree in Early Childhood Education and dedicated his career to educating and advocating for young children. He started his career as an early education teacher, teaching grades Kindergarten to Second. Cody worked for Lee County First Steps and then became the Director of First Steps for the State of South Carolina. He transitioned into the private sector, working for Branagh Group, developing online training tools for early childhood educators, while also working as an adjunct professor at our local community college. One of Cody's wishes was to see more men enter this important field of work. This is such a critical time to increase the number of qualified teachers, given the severe shortage in our country. He was also a passionate learner and was working on his PhD at his passing. This scholarship will be a perfect way to celebrate his life and help strengthen the vital work of early childhood education.

Our goal

I am raising funds to start an early childhood memorial scholarship to honor my late husband, Cody Carlton. My goal is to honor Cody's legacy by creating an early childhood education scholarship fund. This will be a yearly scholarship that will provide a 1,000 dollars to a deserving male high school senior planning to earn a college degree in early childhood education.
