Our story

John Berry, Jr. of Newdale, ID was a beloved wrestling coach for 30+ years, specifically at Sugar-Salem High school where he served as head coach from 1976-2006. His grit and mentorship coached many State and National champions. He shaped and influenced young men both on and off the competition mat and was a beacon of "get 'er done" in his community of Rexburg-Sugar-Newdale. John was awarded the State Wrestling Coach of the Year twelve times and was inducted into both the Idaho Wrestling Hall of Fame and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2009.

Our goal

This fund will support the Coach John C. Berry, Jr. of Idaho Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will support student-athletes from the state of Idaho who emulate Coach John's commitment, tenacity and leadership.

John inspired so many kids to work hard and achieve their goals. He led with love and kindness. We hope his legacy lives on through those athletes who are blessed with this scholarship in his name. Love to all of you at this difficult time. John will be missed.
