Our goal
Drew has talked about creating a scholarship for his high school alma mater for years -- so in typical fashion, here I am making it happen (ha! I kid, I kid).
My idea was to surprise him with it at Christmas: an annual $5,000 scholarship for low income, minority students looking to pursue a mission-driven career in computer science. I reached out to Willoughby South High School in Ohio (his alma mater) and got them on board to promote it to their seniors and recent grads.
But then I thought: what if I could do more? What if I could get our family and friends to donate money on his behalf, and turn $5,000 into $6,500, or $10,000, or...even more??? Some huge amount of money that would mean a deserving teenager could avoid taking on massive debt just to go to college -- with the added benefit that your generosity would blow Drew's socks off (literally. They all have holes in them).
Drew is the kind of person who will plan someone else's birthday party instead of his own. The top item on his Christmas list is teacher donations. He regularly drops hundreds of dollars on DonorsChoose because he is so acutely aware of his own newfound financial stability that it would be unconscionable not to give back.
Plus -- I'm just really tickled by the idea of watching his jaw drop to the floor.
And okay, it'd be great if he cried.
Wept.
Sniffled.
So, shall we do it? Shall we start a scholarship in Drew's name and get a kid from Ohio to college? I'm cashing in all the favors and calling in all the reinforcements. We'd be so eternally grateful if you can spare any amount to donate to the FIRST ANNUAL KARODE SCHOLARSHIP FOR NERDS!
Donate nowwwwwwwwww.
And thank you :)

Scholarships made a big difference in me being able to attend the college of my choice, where I met the one and only Drew Karode. It’s all coming full circle! Plus, us nerds gotta stick together. Sincerely, Someone who minored in Medieval Studies
