Our story
The Aktipis Entrepreneurship Fellowship was created in the memory of Stelios Aktipis, a scientist, real estate developer and public servant. Stelios was born in Athens, Greece, and moved to the United States in his 20s to continue his education and research at Brown, Brandeis and Harvard Medical School before beginning his life as a professor at Loyola University of Chicago at the Stritch School of Medicine in 1966. He was committed to both service to his community and to education, serving as an elected board member of the Salt Creek School District from 1987 to 1991, as Trustee for the Village of Oak Brook from 2004 to 2011, and two terms as Chairman of the Village of Oak Brook Planning Commission. Stelios also applied his shrewd mind and entrepreneurial spirit to real estate development throughout his life.
Our goal
The Aktipis Entrepreneurship Fellowship provides financial support to students who exemplify Stelios Aktipis' values and drive. This includes an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for innovation, deep scholarly engagement, fundamental curiosity about the world and academic excellence. Stelios Aktipis also possessed a sense of adventure and a desire and drive to be embedded in his community and the broader world. Students who are bold thinkers, academically driven, deeply curious about the world and have a record of service to their communities are encouraged to apply. Donations to this fund will support this scholarship and its longevity.
